East China School District, Michigan
The East China School District is a school district in St. Clair County, Michigan. According to a report from the Michigan Department of Education, it served 5,500 students for the 2006-07 school year and was the 65th largest public school district in Michigan.[1] The Mackinac Center for Public Policy has contacted East China to post its checkbook register but so far it does not appear to be online.

Saved money by increasing transparency
East China School District decided in early 2011 to put its checkbook register online, outlining all of the district’s expenses each month online. School board member Allen Reichle said this helped save about $60,000 when a local resident noticed the district had made a mistake when putting one of its expenses up for a bid. Reichle said the district ended up purchasing copying service from a new provider for substantially less than the district's current plan.
“We did not open up the bidding for one of our services and just went through the same company we had always [used],” said Reichle. “[Luckily], we had a meeting where a citizen brought this up.”[1]
