Insurance changes

With 90% of health insurance costs borne by the district, Fort Wayne Community Schools is implementing changes to the insurance plan, including adding health savings accounts. Expected savings are $4 million.[11]

Math and English

In 2009-10, 57.1% of FWCS students passed math and English assessments.[1]

Fort Wayne Community Schools' graduation rate in 2009-10 was 85.4%.[9] Its dropout rate was 3.2%.[1]

In 2009, the district's average composite SAT score was 929, compared to the statewide average of 1003.[1]

Reform

Impact of vouchers

Although Fort Wayne is an A-rated district, nearly 400 students from the district opted for private-school vouchers, taking state money with them and away from the district. A district spokesperson said they budgeted carefully in case students took the voucher option.[12]
