County Executive
The County Executive is the head of the executive branch in Snohomish County and is elected for a four year term.[13] The current County Executive is Democrat Aaron Reardon.[14]
Reardon has recently been the subject of legal trouble along with a recall campaign:
- Possible misuse of public funds
- In June, the Island County Prosecutor has decided that there is insufficient evidence to charge Reardon with misuse of public funds. It was alleged that he used public funds for travel with his mistress, county employee Tamara Dutton. Dutton claims she had a long running affair with Reardon and said he used the funds to conduct the affair.[15]
- During one trip with Dutton, Reardon charged $50.60 to the county credit card for a hotel "intimacy kit". Reardon's secretary called the hotel to have the charge changed to his personal card.[16]
- A Washington State Patrol investigation found only $6 in questionable charges after an investigation of Executive Reardon. Some of the alleged misuse of funds fell outside statute of limitations on misuse of public funds.[17]
- Involvement of public employees in campaign
- Reardon now faces a possible $10,000 fine from the Public Disclosure Commission if he is found guilty of using county funds for his campaign. [18] Phone records show that Reardon used his county cellphone for campaign purposes. Further, they are investigating the possibility of a Reardon employee using a different first name and requesting police records concerning his election opponent.[19]
- Recall campaign
- A recall petition is waiting for a ruling from a judge before it can continue to the signature gathering phase. It was filed by Gold Bar attorney Anne Block who cites Reardon's violation of campaign laws and the use of tax dollars for campaign purposes. If the judge allows the petition to move forward, then 47,444 signatures must be collected in 180 days.[20]
